LEGO Fun – LEGO Guns and Roses Stage!

I just cannot get enough of these LEGO creations.  When I was a kid, we had TONS of these things around the house, and it was always a game to make sure Dad never got one of these lodged into his foot.

This one is a LEGO Guns and Roses creation, from MOC Pages user Steve Grant.  Check it out!  It’s not quite as extensive as the LEGO Concert Rig I posted last week, but nevertheless it is awesome!  It even comes standard with a crappy overpriced venue food stand!

Maiko Takeda – Naked Light in its Purest Form with Fashion

I’m in love with Maiko Takeda.

Let me back up:  This is the work of Maiko Takeda, and she blows my mind.  Maiko takes fashion, incorporates the idea of pattern projections based on fabric, and turns them into unbelievable works of human art.  Maybe this is why I’m in love with Maiko Takeda.

Check this out:

Right?

Riiiiiight?!

From Maiko’s portfolio page, about Maiko:

Logic + geometry + space form the common denominator in all Maiko Takeda pieces. It’s a world in which the simple will seem complicated and order turns to chaos. But do not be afraid to indulge, as at the end you will always find that the common denominator stands (right there at the bottom where it belongs).

Maiko Takeda grew up in a post boom Tokyo where she quickly was faced with the challenge of wanting to create products of individual and timeless quality in a country slowly coming to a grinding halt. This meant that she more and more looked to areas outside of fashion and pop culture for impulses, exploring the city by foot, finding inspiration in the smallest and most random of things.

Within the pieces, there is the juxtaposition of various elements. Environmental influences such as shadow, wind and gravity, create an experience of wonder and bewilderment for the adorned. The form of her work itself can never be its sole feature as the extra element is always seeking to transcend the expectations of the wearer as part of the work.

After having moved to London she studied Jewellery Design BA(Hons) at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and is currently doing a Masters in Millinery at the Royal College of Art. Her work experience includes Issey Miyake, Stephen Jones, Philip Treacy and Erickson Beamon.

Enough talking.  MORE MAIKO!

Let’s Nominate Jefferson Waful, Umphrey’s McGee, and ECTO Productions for a 2013 Parnelli Award!

jeff-waful-LD-Umphreys-McGee-4

We have about three methods out there in the entertainment lighting industry for lighting designers to be showcased.  One of those yearly methods is the PLSN Parnelli Awards — it’s like the Oscars for the production industry!

This year, I think we should nominate one of the best LDs for the best bands out there with the best set of production:  Jefferson Waful, Umphrey’s McGee, and ECTO Productions, who supplies UM’s tour kit.  This is my opinion, of course — but if you share this opinion, let’s get Jeff and UM on the bill for one of the best events in the industry to showcase some true talent in this business.

Here’s a look at the form you’ll want to fill out:

parnelli-awards-jimonlight

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to the Parnelli Awards nomination site:  http://www.parnelliawards.com/nominate.php
  2. Under “Lighting Designer of the Year,” type in JEFFERSON WAFUL — under “Show:” type in UMPHREY’S MCGEE
  3. Under “Lighting Company of the Year,” type in ECTO PRODUCTIONS – under “Show:” type in UMPHREY’S MCGEE

When you’re ready to submit, your form will look like this:

It’s that easy.  Let’s show our love for one of the TOP acts on the touring market with one of the top LDs out there in the business!

STUMP Tour Time-Lapse – Umphrey’s McGee and STS9’s Joint Tour! #UM #STS9

umphreys-houseofblues-all-access1.jpg

This is excellent, and we’re keeping with the whole stop motion theme today.  This is a video uploaded by the UMVideo account on YouTube — the music you’re rocking out to during the video is Umphrey’s McGee’s Wizard Burial Ground.

Enjoy!

Here’s a bonus bit of rock and roll for you on this fine Thursday… Women, Wine, and Song at Alpharetta, GA! Why? Well, WHY THE HELL NOT?!

LEGO CONCERT RIG Stop Motion VIDEO!

That’s right sports fans, yesterday’s Lego Concert Rig post was spectacular!  I found this gem yesterday from Germany of ANOTHER Lego Concert Rig stage setup, but this time in STOP MOTION.  This thing is absolutely freaking awesome.

The Daily Lamp – The Satechi Touch USB Lamp for Alcoholics

Today’s Daily Lamp falls under the “phoning it in” category.  If you’re someone with a bunch of bottles hanging around, you too can have any kind of lamp you want.  Just empty the bottle, stick this lamp in before OR after you wash the nasty ol’ thing, and boom — instant lamp.  Meet the Satechi Touch USB lamp, which allows you to plug any empty bottle that’ll accept a standard width bottle at the minimum (which, consequently, is 2 3/8″):

Crazy, no? It’s only $25 bucks, so who cares if it’s ridiculous?

You can go over to Satechi’s website and buy your own, but you have to supply the bottle.

A LEGO CONCERT RIG!

Ok, this might be the most awesome lego creation I’ve ever seen, and my best friend is 42 and has every frigging Star Wars lego thing ever invented. Meet the Lego Concert, from Mario Fabrio. Mario’s a bit of a Lego fan you could say… but his work?  Even Greggus must bow in the face of Mario the Lego King!

The Daily Lamp – King Edison Pendant from Young and Battaglia for Mineheart

king-edison-pendant-young-battaglia-3

Today’s Daily Lamp, albeit a little late this evening, is quite awesome.  Tobin at Barbizon sent me this quite some time ago, and it’s about time I get this one into the runnings!

From retailer Mineheart, and created by Young and Battaglia in England for Mineheart:

Small is beautiful meets a moment of genius, a perfect tiny chandelier suspended inside a glass lightbulb and hung on braided silken cable.

The ‘King Edison’ pendant lamp designed by Young & Battaglia, combines the pure simplicity of an Edison light bulb with the romance and glamour of a Kings chandelier. It consists of a miniature brass chandelier inside a hand blown clear glass shade and satin chrome fittings. Ideal for handing individually or in clusters for maximum effect.

Current lead time: 4-6 weeks

For use with a 12 volt power supply, (transformer included).
Supplied with a 2 metre braided cable and ceiling rose (longer cable available on request).

Dimensions:  15 cm diameter x 21 cm H

Theme: Miniature, Tiny Chandelier, Glass pendant shade, Globe bulb, Cluster

What do you think?  I for one submit that IT IS GREAT!

The Daily Lamp – The Boob Lamp by Francesco Bonifazi

Today’s Daily Lamp comes from industrial and furniture designer Francesco Bonifazi — and perhaps creatively called…  The Boob Lamp:

boob-lamp-francesco-bonifazi-6Is it breast-like?  Is it a rarefaction of creativity?  Only Francesco knows.
