When you fire this bad puppy up from whatever device you have — iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android tablet, whatever — you’ll get the top page story right up front (yeah, yeah, my battery always runs that low, shut up):

The menu here gives you access to anything you really ever need to do in life, including eat or pay your internet bill which I keep forgetting to do:

The Popular Articles tab gives you high traffic stories that you know you need to read:

You know, that bastard David would OF COURSE make me work for the number one spot on that list.  What a jackass.  I WRITE THE QUESTIONS!

Right in the dark while you’re lying there reading this if you’re an insomniac like me, maybe it’s a Thursday and it’s 2pm or something for you you can jump right to the JimOnLight Flickr Group:

Videos.  Of course, videos!  What kind of self-serving aptly named website would be worth a damn without some videos?!!1

YOU TOO can submit to JimOnLight.  Use the app!  If you’re out there in the field and you see the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen or just anything you might be looking at, this is how!

Second to last but least not at all to me, the most awesome Flickr group, Today’s Sun.  Fox’s Flickr group is way cooler than mine even though mine tries really hard and never quite could afford to go to college but definitely never stripped its way through Dental School:

Twitter Feed.  Because really now, does anyone actually ever actually physically GO to Twitter anymore?!

David, you’re a bad ass.  Everybody else, GO GET YOU SOME JIMONLIGHT.COM APP!

Aww man.  I had such a crush on Pam Dawber.  But I was six or seven, it never would have worked out.

The Weekly “Dodgy Technicians” Facebook Group on JimOnLight!

I’m very excited to announce that JimOnLight is going to feature a weekly post of some of the scariest, most unbelievable photos of dodgy work done by people in our business.  In cooperation with Andy and Chris from the Dodgy Technicians group on Facebook, JimOnLight will be hosting some of these very crazy photos for your enjoyment, fright, and entertainment — hopefully this will also force people to do better work, because — well, who in their right minds wants to become famous this way?!

Ladies and gentlemen, here are some really Dodgy photos!  Can you spot the epic fails?!  Click on each photo for a larger version, maybe it will help you spot the disaster either in progress or waiting to happen!

I call this piece “Hanging Just By Safety Cables.”

No, no, standing a ladder on a sheet of plywood is perfectly safe. I hope the ATV’s parking brake is on!

What the double what?!

I’m sure that the crane operator was sober.

Welcome to Faces of Death the Game Show! Would you prefer falling, electrocution, or a combination of both?

Sometimes even my big mouth has nothing to say. Wow.

chair-standing

What, was the ladder really THAT inconvenient?!

duct-tape-tieline

Nah, that won’t lead to tape residue at all.

oops-forgot-the-cover

I have nothing but sympathy for this tech — the first time I ever soldered a 19-pin socapex connector, I forgot to add half of the casing hardware. I actually cried!

Click on this one, check it out full-size. There are sticks of truss that are TRUCK-STRAPPED TOGETHER and TO THE ROOF.

We’ll be back next week with another installment of Dodgy Technicians on JimOnLight!  Make sure to visit Dodgy Technicians on Facebook for daily entertainment of the ridiculous kind!

My Random Traveling Life Lately

I just sorted through eleven thousand photos from the last few months.  I’m finally getting time to plow through the enormous backlog of content I have to share with you!

I noticed that I had so many photos of traveling — nothing really terribly focused, but just so much traveling.

SO.  MUCH.  TRAVELING.

I was going to try and put some rhyme or reason to this collection, but I think you’ll enjoy it if you don’t travel — and you’ll commiserate if you travel like me or more.  Some people travel about ten times what I do…

and then there’s the road warriors…

Check out the whole gallery!  There are 112 photos from random locations…  see if you recognize them!

PLASA 2012: Pick Up Your Face, It’s Over

Now that I’m back in North America AND I am all but caught up with sleep, I want to share some of my photos from the fun that was PLASA 2012 at Earl’s Court, right off the Earl’s Court tube stop and only a moment’s tube ride from a great Indian restaurant that really ended up hating about ten of us after a wild night of eating some delicious tandoori.  WHEW — that was a huge sentence!

It was a pretty busy show for me and for the CAST Group booth (Hall 1, E-27), but the load-in went smoothly, Steve and his guys from Intexco took really good care of us, and a big thanks to Mickey, Shane, and Paul for making our booth look outstanding!  I even got some carpenters to run cable and hang lighting fixtures!  Brilliant work, boys, and thanks again!

Let’s check out some of these photos — I tried to snap shots everywhere I went, so I have a bit of everything here and there!

PHISH at BLOSSOM – June 4, 2011

After a marathon week, I am back in the saddle at the Light Associated Media Headquarters in Oklahoma City!  A 15 hour drive from Columbus, OH to OKC happened a few days ago, and after sleeping off the remnants of that, I have my buddy Greg in town, hanging out and restoring some peace.  After the crazy schedule of working through the semester and trying to figure out how to do all that needs to be done, it’s time for a switching UP in gears.

You know how I spell relief after a hell schedule?  P-H-I-S-H.  Greg and I went to Blossom Music Center in Cleveland to see one of the shows on the summer tour – I had plans to interview Chris Kuroda again, but Phish’s media people never got back to me regarding the interview.  Sorry folks.  I know a lot of you had requested a second set of interviews with Chris, but I guess they’re too busy to accomodate me.  Regardless, the show was amazing, the band was fantastic, and the tour seems to be going very, very well.  Kuroda’s driving a pretty fun rig, and he seems to be having a lot of fun with it!

The rig, post show for detail:

aaaaaaaaaaand while being driven:

I’m not gonna run my mouth here much about the show, I think the few shots I got from my point-and-shoot (damned camera thieves) speak volumes.  There is some video coming, stay tuned!

A gallery view is below – click on a shot, and a gallery opens up!  Enjoy!  Also, did you go to the show? Drop a comment below, tell the world what you thought of the lighting!

The JimOnLight.com Flickr Pool is Growing!

As of this afternoon, we have 28 members, and steadily growing!

The JimOnLight Flickr Pool is just a place for Flickr peeps to share their photos with a group of “light-minded” individuals.  And with that bad pun, I’ll stop.

Check out some images from the pool!
