Jim Hutchison’s 20×2 Presentation at SXSW 2010

I have missed my blog.  I have been so incredibly busy working on a secret project to be released soon, working for CAST Software, and researching posts for JimOnLight.com.  I don’t remember being this busy, even when I was trying to light a show and write my Master’s thesis.  I hope that everyone is doing great, and that your 2010 has been stellar thus far!

This last weekend I went down to South By Southwest Interactive in Austin, TX – I presented at the tenth anniversary show for 20×2 – twenty speakers had two minutes to answer one question.  This year’s question was “Who Loves Ya Baby?” and there were twenty absolutely excellent presentations.  Kevin Newsum, Jeff Rider, Mark Couvillion, and Mike Stephens as MC really put on an awesome show to a standing room only house.  Gentlemen, thanks for inviting me!

I made a video presentation, rented some LED wash fixtures, pointed them up at the ceiling, and lit up the club with colored light, busking along to the presentation.  I’ve included two videos below – the first video is the actual video presentation, and the second video is of the performance itself.  Watch the first video to see the content, because the performance video is a little blossomy with the white contrast.

I hope you enjoy the videos!  That was one of the most fun nights I’ve had in the last few years!

Moving to A Private Server! Excuse the Downtime Tonight, If Any

jol_minijimbranded

JimOnLight has grown to the point where we’re trying to find better ways to make the site perform better.  Tonight, we’re moving the site over to a private server to see if performance issues improve this evening.  Thank you for reading so much that we have to make changes like that!

While we’re moving the site over to the private server tonight, we might have some times where the site is either flaky, or not loading at all.  Please excuse the inconvenience, we’re trying to make the site faster and rock harder.  Maybe in the same fashion as that of a hurricaaaaane.

JimOnLight.com readers ROCK!

Pilobolus – SHADOWLAND

shadowland-pilobolus

The performance group Pilobolus is premiering a new work called Shadowland in Madrid tonight, September 18.  Before I say anything else, watch this video, it’s just a few minutes.

I got chills on my neck from that!  Pilobolus’ work has always been amazing – this work in particular, a collaboration with David Poe (American music icon) and Steven Banks (Spongebob Squarepants Lead Writer).  From the Youtube page:

Part dance, part shadow act, part circus, and part concert, SHADOWLAND is a surreal story of a young girls sensational world as she comes of age, created in collaboration with lead writer of SpongeBob SquarePants Steven Banks and the American musician, producer, and film composer David Poe, whose poetic work for SHADOWLAND ranges from ballads to hard-driving rock numbers that lift the audience out of its seats!

I *think* the lighting designer for this is Neil Peter Jamopolis. Am I wrong on this? I have been looking, and I’ll certainly correct the post if I am wrong.
