The Daily Lamp – A Ceiling Lamp, Made from the Ceiling

As strange as it is at first glance, it’s actually a quite awesome idea — adapt your architecture to have some form AND function.  Meet the Ceiling Light, from Russian designer Дмитрий Куляев, or Dimitry Kulyev, for those of us who don’t speak Russian very well (or at all, like me — well, I learned how to swear in Russian, of course):

Dimitri’s Ceiling Light actually incorporates the concept of recessed illumination, which provides a nice indirect source of light for a room.  He goes a bit further in this design by adding a fluorescent tube into the “luminaire.”  What do you think about this?  I’m not a fan of un-diffused fluorescent, as that stuff gives me a wicked headache, but I like the idea of Dimitri’s lamp, period!  I have to say that I think he really tackled every element of the typical A-Lamp, all the way down to the shiny applique on the ceiling to represent the base.  Brilliant work, man!
