Jim Hutchison Joins the CAST Software Team!

I am really excited to announce that I’m now working for CAST Software!

castlogo-300px

I approached Gil and Bruce from CAST Software at LDI 2009 about CAST’s role in social media, and that I wanted to help in any way I could.  After talks and strategizing for a while since the convention, they’ve decided to bring me on as their Social Media and Area Sales Manager!

This is just awesome for me.  I have A) been using WYSIWYG for a long, long time, B) really believed in what they’re doing up there, C) wanted to be a part of the CAST team, and D) I love talking to people about WYSIWYG!  This is like epic win for me right now.  So as of a few days ago, I’m playing on the CAST team of developers, experts, and really fun people.

In addition to my full-time roll with JimOnLight.com, I’m also going to help CAST branch out into the worlds of Twitter, Facebook, and other various social media streams.  YEEHAA!  I’m still gonna write about WYSIWYG stuff here, because I am a fan and a user!

In the mean time, follow CAST Software on Twitter and Facebook!

So, please resume your normal JimOnLight.com reading, sorry to interrupt!

The JimOnLight.com Podcast, Episode 3!

jimonlight-domo

FINALLY – another episode of The JimOnLight.com Podcast!  It’s only been, what – like 6 months?

This episode covers LDI 2009 – I had a nice chat with Justin from iSquint.net about the conference (as we were glued to the hip most of the conference), and we had a rambling conversation about different products, the LDI 2009 vibe, and other stuff related to the show.

Grab a cup of coffee, get comfy, and check out the podcast, episode 3!

LDI 2009 – Daktronics’ Booth

Have you heard of Daktronics?  They’re a video, display, scoreboard, and audio company out of South Dakota, and they had what I thought was an interesting video display hanging above their booth.  You could see it from many vantages in the conference hall – cool display, Daktronics!

Check out some images:

I love this picture below, although it’s overexposed – it just makes the display look ethereal!

LDI 2009: SeaChanger’s Booth

seachanger-ldi-jimonlight-4

One of my favorite booths this year was SeaChanger’s booth.  Besides the fact that they have a great product and are using the LIFI lamp like rockstars, SeaChanger had their standard setup – Eileen Morris (gourmet chef and wife of Tom Morris at SeaChanger) cooked those of us at the conference some of the finest food I’ve ever eaten.  Most definitely the best omelet I’ve ever eaten.

The entire booth was lit by plasma sources – I have completely forgotten the percentage that Tom Stanziano gave me about how much less power the SeaChanger booth was using by having plasma lamps in their fixtures – but at least 30% less comes to mind.  The light from these LIFI sources and the SeaChanger optics is pretty stunning.  The booth itself is set up like a kitchen show – broadcast camera feeds to plasma screens, showing how nice the light appears on camera.

Quite frankly, it is a damned beautiful light.

Okay – omelets, Grand Marinier whipped creme on crepes, the SeaChanger color engine, and the LIFI lamp.  This was a good combination for LDI 2009 for me!

I have some really interesting stuff coming up about SeaChanger this week – you have to stay tuned, especially if you like glass color filters…

Check out some images of SeaChanger’s LDI 2009 exhibit:

That’s my hand, and it’s resting on the cooling fins of the SeaChanger below using a LIFI lamp.  Awesome.

SeaChanger Wash:

Look!  It’s a Nautilus, a Profile, and a Wash!

Thanks for the omelet, Eileen!

Were You at LDI 2009?

JIM_NOSEHAIRS_JIMONLIGHT

I met so many awesome people at LDI 2009 this year – it was certainly a year to remember, and my first Orlando show.  I normally go to Vegas for LDI, but I am glad I was able to partake in the candy-coated goodness that came from this year’s conference.

Enough about me though – what did YOU think of this year’s show?  What was your favorite thing, your least favorite thing, your biggest surprise, or your biggest letdown?  Did you see something so totally awesome that it rocked your world?  Did you have a bad beef burrito from the concession area?  I really want to know – if you were in Orlando basking in the artificial light goodness of LDI 2009, please tell me your experiences in the comments below!

If you’re kind enough to comment, I’m going to throw your name into a drawing for some JimOnLight stickers and this LED flashlight just for taking the time to comment!

LDI 2009 – Chauvet Lighting’s Booth

LET THE PICTURES BEGIN!

I loved posting last year’s LDI pics of the booths I photographed.  It was like giving the people who couldn’t go a chance to see what it was all about!

Every LDI, I am always amazed by the sheer magnitude of Chauvet Lighting‘s booth.  It’s always massive, it’s always a sunburst of color, and you can usually see it from just about anywhere in the convention center.  I also got to meet Navah, the girl behind @chauvetlighting on Twitter.  Great to meet you finally!

Check out this booth!

LDI 2009 is Over, and I Had A Blast!

jim-leia-ldi2009

I’m home from LDI 2009 in Orlando, Florida – my lovely wife Leia and my sister-in-law were with me on Saturday afternoon on the conference floor and at the LDI 2009 Tweet-Up that night.  Friday and Saturday I walked around mostly with Justin of iSquint.net and generally had a blast.

This was the year that I met more people in the span of two days than ever before in my life!  All of you wonderful people that I finally got to meet at LDI this year – you’re all awesome!

I have some excellent information from the conference that I’ll be sharing across the next several days.  Lots of stuff debuted at this year’s LDI conference, and lots of images were captured by my camera!  I think I took over a thousand pictures and video clips, so get ready to learn what went up and down at the show!

I have so many things to show you all…  now that you’re all hopefully back from Orlando and rocking the office again, right?  There were so many things that were awesome about the show this year – two of which are on this page.  One is my wife getting to walk the show floor and see what it’s all about, and another is our beloved @lekogirl’s awesome color filter swatch dress at the JimOnLight.com and iSquint.net LDI 2009 Tweet-Up on Saturday night!  Daphne, you are awesome!

Stay tuned!

LDI LDI LDI LDI LDI!

[LCT-|-embed]

This is one of my favorite times of year – lighting industry people coming together to network, say hello to old friends, geek out over stuff you’ve been watching for a while, and generally get to think about light and lighting for an entire weekend, non-stop.  As a super lighting web nerd, I get to see how the industry is progressing, and I get to see how we are all doing with the progression of the industry.  FUN!

Remember – Saturday night is the JimOnLight.com and iSquint.net Tweet-Up at the Peabody Hotel Lobby Bar.  We’re sending the word out conference-wide:  if you are at LDI and you like light, come to the Tweet-Up! Come say hi to us, and come meet other like-minded people who just want to ROCK!  We’ve got an invite post at Tweet-Vite, check it out and let us know if you’re coming!  The time is 8pm, and there’s an announcement at 9pm!

If you’re at LDI 2009, come make this a memorable one – we’ll see you at the JimOnLight.com and iSquint.net Tweet-Up!
